SOMETHING FOR THE TEACHERS

by Sifu Vince

I have always written about teachers. One reason I got to like about this style of Kung Fu I practice the Choy Li Fut System is its historical roots and foundations.

first the founder named the style under his teachers. Choy Fook , and Li Yau San and Fut for his beliefs his religion maybe his god.

It shows the heart of this man, he did not name it under himself as is common now a days. Nothing wrong with that! but personally I like the thought that he honored his teachers that much! and his God.

And more than that I also like the foundational thought of his teacher that would not teach him if he did not study their religion, Buddhism. He kept the link it was not just an ordinary martial art devoid of strong spiritual link.

On my part I see this and I make efforts to teach my students this way, however I am not buddhist but catholic so I try to enlighten them on this path and also let them learn the roots of buddhism in my understanding. So they have a good link to both.

Now going back to teachers, their roles and honor due them as I always write that “Teaching is a way to immortality in the Kung Fu mind”, here is an article I saw that I would like to share with my readers. On the value of Teachers!

Inspirational Quotes for Teachers

Sometimes it’s hard to find a gift that really recognizes the important contribution that someone makes in your life. That’s certainly the case with teachers.

I grew up in Trenton, Tennessee, a small town of 5,000 people. I have wonderful memories of those first 18 years. And during those years, there were two teachers who I can say, with certainty, helped to make me who I am today.

The first was Ms. Bridges, who taught me in the 4th grade. She was amazing! I’ll never forget her beautiful smile and her passion for teaching. She made learning so much fun and made all of us feel as though we could do anything we wanted to do. The positive seeds she planted in my head are still growing!

Then there was Fred Culp, my history teacher in high school. To this day he is still the funniest person I’ve ever met. In addition to loving his history class, he taught me that a sense of humor, especially laughing at yourself, can be one of life’s greatest blessings. He also, more than any teacher I ever had, made learning so much fun. His class was always the highlight of my day.

As most of you know, I also love quotations. That’s why this inspirational quote book for teachers is so special to me. It combines my appreciation for teachers and my love of quotes in a gift book that is perfect for recognizing those one-of-a-kind teachers in your life.

The two people behind this book—John and Linda Podojil—are teachers themselves and also know from first-hand experience what it means to have your life touched by a great teacher.

You see, in elementary school, John was hard of hearing and failed the first grade because only he knew he could not hear. He read people’s lips to try and learn, but could not when they turned away from him. John was diagnosed with an 80 percent hearing loss and underwent an operation to restore his hearing. He was also a high school drop-out and it took special teachers to ignite his love of learning…so much so that he not only received a GED but also an associate’s degree.

John went on to teach technical education at the University of California San Diego, California State University Dominguez Hills and the College of Southern Nevada. He has presented at both Cornell University and Stanford, educated over 3,000 technical education instructors on safety in technical skills classrooms and is an advocate for technical education. John says his greatest teacher of all times is his wife, Linda.

Linda also was a teacher. Before retiring from the Boeing Company as full-time safety administrator at Boeing Portland and also in Seattle, Linda was a part-time safety instructor for South Seattle Community College, where she taught occupational safety and health-related subjects.

John and Linda know that teachers who believe they can make a difference do make a difference.
